Robert D. “Bob” Caldwell, age 88, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at his home in Upper Sandusky
Bob was born to Henry “Hank” and Luella (Carpenter) Caldwell, both of whom are deceased. He married Phyllis Smith on September 4, 1954, and she survives.
He is survived by his son Brian (Nancy) Caldwell of Catawba Island, Ohio. 3 granddaughters, Alyson (Tim) Holman, Elizabeth (Javier) Valencia, and Lauren (Karl) Seeger, along with 5 great grandchildren: Daryn, Christian, Evan, Gabriel, and Leah, and a sister, Jane Leahy of Elida.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a son Darin, and 2 brothers, Thomas and Larry.
Bob was a 1952 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to attend International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He then served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
After the military Bob went to work for the Handy Twine Knife Company, where he was part-owner. He also worked for many years at First Citizens National Bank in Upper Sandusky.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where had served as the financial secretary, deacon and elder of the church. He also attended Congregational United Church of Christ in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Bob was a 50-year member of the Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter #96 RAM, Upper Sandusky Council #98 RSM, Marion Commandery #36, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Aladdin Temple of the Shrine, Columbus, Araba Shriners of Ft. Myers, along with the Wyandot County Shrine Club, and Ft. Myers Beach Shrine Club.
He was a member of the BPOE #83, Cushman Club of America, and formerly member of Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters Club, and the United States Power Squadron.
Bob enjoyed his time boating and fishing at Lake Erie, along with spending winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. He and Phyllis enjoyed many years of traveling with their card club friends.
Prior to the service, there will be a Masonic memorial service to honor Bob.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Brad McKibben officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home following the memorial service.
Visitations will be held 2 hours before service time on Saturday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home.
