Kathlyn A. “Katie” Thiel, age 93, of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 3:58 AM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care in Upper Sandusky.
Katie was born on December 14, 1928, in Upper Sandusky to Hibbert and Goldie (McFarland) Gottfried and they preceded her in death. She married Richard A. Thiel on April 23, 1949, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1999.
Katie is survived by sons, Bob (Bonnie) Thiel, and Larry (Debbie) Thiel, both of Upper Sandusky, her son in law Kip Johnson, 10 grandchildren, Mike (Heather) Thiel, Robb Thiel, Emily Thiel, Abby Thiel, Alec Thiel, Jeremy (Madi) Spitler, Jocelyn Lehnhart, Cole (Kara) Johnson, Kalene Johnson, and Anna Johnson, along with 14 great grandchildren: Hadley, Lanie, Charolotte, Nola, Jaidyn, Danzig, Benton, Jared, Jakob, Jenna, Harley, Tori, Cali Mae, and Kendall.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, 2 daughters, Connie Spitler, and Christina Johnson, son in law Steve Spitler, her grandson in law Jeremy Lehnhart, companion Maury Logsdon, and 4 siblings, Phillip, Roger, Richard, and Mary Ann.
Katie graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1947. Katie worked at AT&T as a switchboard operator, sold life insurance, had a real-estate license, and was co-owner of Dick and Katie’s Carry Out and Drive Thru, and worked at Thiel’s Wheels as a title officer for many years.
Katie was a good seamstress, enjoyed golfing, going on walks and bicycle rides, and traveling with her companion Maury Logsdon. Katie never met a stranger in her life and always had a smile on her face. She loved spending time with her kids and her grandkids.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky and will be officiated by Father Conrad Sutter OFM Conv. Burial will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
Visitations for Katie will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Friday, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church Prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Wyandot Memorial or St. Peter’s School and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
