Michael “Jay” Swinehart, age 62, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away following a long illness on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 7:32 pm at Shelby Pointe Nursing Home, Shelby, Ohio.
Jay was born on August 20, 1961 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Russell and Vera (Yaussy) Swinehart.
He is survived by his mother Vera of Upper Sandusky, 2 sisters, Karen Lee of Upper Sandusky, and Jan Pool of Upper Sandusky, sister in laws, Nancy Swinehart, and Marlene Swinehart, both of Upper Sandusky, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his father Russell Swinehart, and 2 brothers, Steven and Timothy, and 2 brother in laws, Dan Lee, and John Pool.
He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1979 and soon after joined the United States Army, serving for 4 years in Germany and San Antonio, Texas, and earning the rank of Sergeant. After his time in the Army, Jay went to school and became a licensed vocational nurse, and worked a various nursing homes, before becoming a Hospice Nurse, where he tended to those in their homes at the end of life. Jay worked in the San Antonio area from 1984 until 2016, when he moved back to Upper Sandusky.
Jay was a lover of cats, in fact, you could say that he was a true “cat whisperer”, and could tame the most feral cat into a lap cat.
Funeral services for Jay Swinehart will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
