James S. Rhoden, age 82, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born on October 4, 1940, in Upper Sandusky to Stephen and Ruth (Nutter) Rhoden, both of whom are deceased. He married Betty Beis on October 11, 1964, in McCutchenville, Ohio, and she survives.
He is survived by 2 sons, Steve (Becky) Rhoden, and Mike (Kim Trausch) Rhoden, both of Upper Sandusky; 5 grandchildren, Jimmy Rhoden, Hunter (Cassidy) Rhoden, Clayson Rhoden, Heather (Jason) Hall, and Nick (Brittany LaFountain) Rhoden; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Hall.
Jim is also survived by 2 sisters, Corrina Santoro of Sun City, Arizona, and Judy (Dave) Patchett of Upper Sandusky.
He was a 1958 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, and went on to serve in the US Air Force 179th Combat Support Squadron as a Staff Sergeant for 6 years.
Jim retired in 2000 from the former Tower Automotive in Upper Sandusky, ending his career there as a plant engineer. Before that he worked for Grundtisch Ford, as a mechanic and MidWest Tool as a machinist.
He was a former member of the Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, Elks BPOE #83, Amvets #777, life member of the NRA and was one of founding members of Wyandot Classics and Cruisers. Back in the 70’s he was involved with the youth baseball program, while his boys were playing.
For hobbies, Jim enjoyed collecting old license plates, working on old cars, especially his 64 Mercury, working on clocks, and deer and mushroom hunting.
Funeral services for James S. Rhoden will be at 12:00pm, June 10, 2023, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations will be held 2 hours before service on Saturday, June 10, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. The family requests casual attire.
