Helen L. Von Derau, age 85, of Marseilles, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 10:25am in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Helen was born on December 7, 1932 in Pike County, Ohio to Truman and Maud (Andre) Turner, both of whom are deceased. She married Roman Leo Von Derau on December 30, 1952 and he survives in Marseilles.
She is survived by a son, Shawn Von Derau of Marseilles, two granddaughters, Ashley (Chad) Clark of Marion, Ohio and Dawn Von Derau of Marseilles, as well as seven great grandchildren: Noah, Ashton, Nick, Cathy, Cameron, Carson, and Aaliyah. A sister, Juanita Arnold, of Marseilles also survives.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, twin sons Leo and Leon, a daughter, Dawn Christine, three brothers: Ralph, Clarence and Truman Jr., and two sisters: Iona Stansbery and Myrtle Oliver.
She was a 1950 graduate of Marseilles High School and she went on to graduate from The Ohio State University at Marion with a degree in nursing. She worked as an R.N. in the obstetrics department at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, and before that she was the Director of Nursing at the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, in Upper Sandusky.
She was a long time member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.
Helen will be remembered as a mother to all she knew and was devoted to her husband, son, and granddaughters, along with her great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Helen L. Von Derau will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Marseilles U.M.C. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, from 12:00 – 3:00pm at the Marseilles U.M.C.
