Dr. Thomas Lautermilch Obituary

Dr. Thomas H. Lautermilch, age 89, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 1:10am in the Emergency Room of Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky. 

 

Tom was born on December 12, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to Louis and Loretto (Hale) Lautermilch, both of which are deceased. He married Rebecca “Reba” Morris at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Dayton, Ohio and she survives. 

 

He is survived by his 3 children; Tim (Barb) Lautermilch of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joel Lautermilch of South Lyon, Michigan, and Lisa Lautermilch of Findlay, Ohio and 2 grandchildren, Cole and Lauren Lautermilch.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Loretto Lautermilch, and a sister Jeanne Gall.

 

Tom attended Xavier University, and also the Ohio State University where he graduated from OSU’s College of Optometry. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in English from Western Reserve.

 

Tom began his practice in Elyria, Ohio in 1953.  He acquired Dr. William J. Humphy’s Upper Sandusky practice in 1960 and retired in 1995 after 42 years. 

 

He was a member of Transfiguration of The Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, he was a life member of Knights of Columbus #2050, where he was a 4th degree, BPOE #83 life member, and a member and past president of the Upper Sandusky Lions Club, and also was a member of the Wyandot County Rod & Gun Club.

 

Tom was also active in his younger years with Little League Baseball in Upper Sandusky where he coached the VFW Team.   

 

Tom loved the outdoors, whether it was just working around the house, or doing one of his favorite hobbies, which was hunting and fishing.  For many years Tom, along with family and friends, took their annual hunting trip to Wyoming, which the family has carried on to this day. He also enjoyed shooting and reloading, following the OSU Buckeyes in football and basketball, along with the Indians and Reds.  Tom also enjoyed literature, and enjoyed reading Shakespeare and western history novels and watching John Wayne movies.     

 

A funeral mass for Dr. Thomas H. Lautermilch will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Conrad Sutter OFM Conv and Deacon Kevin Winterstellar.

 

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, from 4:30pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with a 7:45pm Scripture service to be held on Tuesday evening. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Pilot Dogs Inc. or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
