Rose Marie Hawkins

April 1, 1943 ~ February 5, 2016 (age 72) 72 Years Old

 

“There are three things that last: faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love.”  Rose Marie Hawkins, age 72, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed from the loving embrace of her family and friends to the eternal love of God on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky

 

Rose Marie was born in Carey, Ohio on April 1, 1943 to John S. and Regina (Miller) Welsh, both of whom are deceased.  She married Larry P. Hawkins on January 15, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and he passed away on April 11, 1981.

 

Releasing her in love are Jonathan Hawkins, her son, Stephanie King, her daughter, grandchildren: Brianna Hawkins, Samantha (Wade) Van Hoose, Larry Hawkins, Heath Hawkins, Allison King and Ellianna Spence, great grand son, Brentley Hawkins., daughter-in-law Julie Barrett, brothers William (Kim), Robert and Daniel (Sandra) Welsh and Sister Virginia Welsh.

 

Greeting her in the loving embrace of God are her husband: Larry Hawkins, her son, David Hawkins, parents: John and Regina Welsh, brothers: Warren, John Clarence, and David Joseph.

 

Rose Marie attended Our Lady of Consolation grade school and graduated from Carey High School in 1961. After graduating from St. John College, Cleveland in 1965 she entered the United States Navy serving as a Nurse in at the United States Navy Hospital, #5 in Philadelphia. She was so proud of her years of service she had a vanity car license plate USNH5. She was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant, JG and yearly spoke on Veterans Day at the various schools in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of the Upper Sandusky AmVets Post #777, and the American Legion Post #225 Upper Sandusky.

 

She was employed at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 37 years as the Supervisor of Medical Surgery Department.  After retiring from full time work she worked several days a week until 2014 when she became ill.

 

Rose Marie loved music and played piano for her personal pleasure.  She also played in the Country Cousins Band for five years, and also Gene Slemmers Music Makers.  She sang in the Transfiguration of the Lord Church choir and played piano at St. Mary’s Chapel, Kirby. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and baking.

 

Everyone who knew Rose Marie Hawkins knew her as a loving, kind, talented person who created beauty everywhere she went, and she enjoyed exploring.  She had a servant’s heart and a kind word for everyone that she met.

 

No one drove by her house who did not marvel at her beautiful flowers. A waterfall, outdoor train and a garden with roses she started herself decorated the yard.

She loved to cook and no one will make a pie crust equal to hers. Jams, jellies and canned fruit filled her cupboards and were frequent gifts to friends and neighbors. Each child and grandchild had a personalized quilt and a scrapbook to celebrate their lives.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Monday, February 8, 2016 at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church with presider, Rev. Arthur Niewiadomski, and Rev. J.R. Hadnagy, OFM Conv officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carey, where full military graveside rites will be conducted.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, where a scripture service will be held at 5:00pm.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital – Oncology Department, Transfiguration of the Lord Choir, St. Peter’s Catholic School,  Pitt Twp. Vol. Fire Dept.,  and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
