Melvin “Mel” R. Raymond, age 79, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 10:15am at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Mel was born on January 5, 1937 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Gareld Raymond and Dorothy (Hotelling) Leightey, both of whom are deceased. He married Peggy Stansbery on November 27, 1954 in Liberty, Indiana and she survives.
He is survived by two children: Randy (Teresa) Raymond of Findlay, and Penny (Michael) Lewis of Upper Sandusky. Six grandchildren: Heather (Jeffery) Hartman, Amber (Bill) Reed, April Raymond, Andrew (Lindsay) Raymond, Heath (Maria) Lewis, and Alex (Hayley) Raymond, along with 12 great grandchildren.
Mel is also survived by two brothers: Allen (Joyce) Raymond of Kirtland, Ohio, Ronald Raymond of Findlay, and two sisters, Ann Harris of Upper Sandusky, and Rita (Harvey) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, and a sister in law Ilse Raymond of Upper Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great granddaughter, Payton Grace Raymond, two brothers, Merle Raymond and Howard Leightey, Jr., and a sister, Linda Penwell.
Mel was a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to work for Whirlpool in Findlay, as a die setter retiring in 1999 after 33 years.
He was a long time member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, where he was active
With helping with funeral dinners, serving as a greeter and on the chair setup team for many years. Mel also was active with the Men With Vision Group of Trinity Evangelical.
For hobbies, he enjoyed collecting die cast trucks, following the Buckeye’s, Cav’s and Reds. He enjoyed sitting with Peggy on the front porch at his home, and his greatest love was his wife, kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Melvin Raymond will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Trinity Evangelical U.M.C. in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer and Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be held on Monday, October 10, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and 1 hour before service time at the church on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical UMC Building Fund, Hospice of Wyandot County, or the Transportation Fund for the Council on Aging. Memorials may be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
