Hanson "Hank" S. Latham

April 13, 1934 ~ July 16, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Hanson S. “Hank” Latham, 83, of Upper Sandusky, died at 7:03am on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at his residence in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

 

Hank was born on April 13, 1934 in Kenton, Ohio to Kyle and Opal (Fewell) Latham.  He married Faye Adams on August 6, 1954 in Kenton, Ohio and she survives in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

 

He is survived by two sons: Robert “Bob” Latham and William “Bill” (Charlene) Latham and one daughter Debra Rashleigh, all of Upper Sandusky. Hank is also survived by five grandchildren: Carrie, Rachel, Niko, Melissa and Benjamin as well as three great grandchildren: Carter Brunson and Cooper and Carter Grogan.  A brother, Lewis (Joanne) Latham of Kenton, Ohio also survives.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carey Latham.

 

Hank was a 1952 graduate of Kenton High School.  He served the Fremont Police Department from 1960-1966 and as a Deputy for the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department from 1967-1969.  He and his family moved to Upper Sandusky when Hank became an adjustor for Nationwide Insurance in 1969. He worked in that capacity until 1975 when he became an agent and served until 1996 for Nationwide in Upper Sandusky.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of VFW Post 2842 in Upper Sandusky, and a life member of BPOE #83. Hank was a member of the Woodcarvers Association; this was a hobby he loved and for which he was well known.  Hank was a die hard Cleveland Indians fan and attended the Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp in 1991.  He played fastpitch softball with his sons until the age of 56.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, woodworking and furniture building. Most important was Hank’s love for his family.   He served the Upper Sandusky community on the Upper Sandusky Tree Commission from its’ inception. He served on the Service Committee and the Upper Sandusky Police Auxiliary for many years.

 

Funeral services for Hank Latham will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, July 20th at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Old Mission Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, July 19th at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Upper Sandusky Youth Baseball, Hospice of Wyandot County or to a charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent to Lucas-Batton 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
