Frances I. Gottfried, 93, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, died 1:10 pm on Thursday May 26, 2016 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Born May 15, 1922 in Wyandot County to Charles and Gertrude (Riley) Sworts

Surviving, besides her husband, Lewis Jr. Gottfried are  3 children, Gloria (Bill) Fraley, Pa,  Stephan Gottfried (Joe Weiss) Pa. and Ron Gottfried of Upper Sandusky, 7 grandchildren, Lisa (Avery) Tucker, Md. Angelique Snavely, Tiffin, Heather Caudill, Findlay, Jeff (Amy) Myers, Tiffin, Carrie (Skip) Payne, Md., Jennifer (Jim) Ruhlen, & Brian (Jandie) Gottfried, both of Upper Sandusky,  17 great-grandchildren. 7 step-great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Gottfried. Her parents and a brother-in-law, Harold Gottfried precedes her in death.

Fran graduated from Salem Twp School in 1940 and married her high school sweetheart Lewis Jr. Gottfried on June 6, 1943 at North Salem Lutheran Church.

Fran helped her husband on the dairy farm and worked with him at the Lovell Feed Mill, she was also a member of North Salem Lutheran Church, Salem Grange, a teacher’s aide at Salem School for 12 yrs and a Peace Corp Volunteer for 2 yrs in the Dominican Republic. Fran and Lew loved to travel to different countries and spend winters in Punta Gorda, Fla. Fran loved to play the organ and entertain people with her wonderful music, if you could hum a few bars, she could play it. She also loved to play cards and be with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00am, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Joe Trester and Rev. Becky King officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 2 – 6pm. Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be given in Fran’s name to North Salem Lutheran Church for upkeep and maintenance in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH. 43351.
